Text Box: Coloured Pencils

I undertake many commissions for cartoons and caricatures which are very popular but coloured pencils are rapidly becoming my favourite discipline.

Known for my pen and ink pointillist, I was always looking for new techniques to try. I found some great coloured pencil artists on the web and then bought some cp tuition books. After many months reading, I decided to have a go. To cut a long story short, I loved it and became a member of the UKCPS in 2005. I entered the UKCPS 2005 Open International Art Competition where I had two feline portraits accepted which was great. Since that first competition I have had many more accepted and reached Signature Status with the UKCPS in 2007.

Since then I have had artwork accepted for three consecutive competitions for the UKCPS, finished a few cp commissions and taken a workshop but I am learning all the time - most artists are! I predominantly use Prismacolor pencils on Risings Stonehenge paper. The best soft graded pencils you can buy (all 120 of them) on the best paper which can take some abuse. When I draw animal fur, I need some tough paper to take the heavy burnishing and layering technique.

I hope people appreciate my art and it inspires them to have a go at cp. You’ll be surprised at what can be achieved - I was.
