The pointillism picture of Dorian Yates consists of approximately 275,000 ink dots using Rotring ink pens. The nib of the pen used was sized at 0.13mm thick, which as you can appreciate, is extremely small. The pens would dry out after eight hours or so and cleaning was always required. The nibs don’t last too long with this type of drawing because constant impact of the small wire within the nib causes damage. The technique is however very rewarding.
I was forever searching for alternative pens to use that would not suffer this problem eventually drying out.
The search was on! |

The double portraiture was the second Biro drawing that I completed and I was very pleased. Almost as much as Bill & Mary shown.
I sneakily took a photograph of them last summer and finished the drawing ready for Bill’s birthday.
I had wanted to draw them for some time and the end result was well worth it. |

The drawing of Buffy the Vampire Slayer consists of Biro ball point pen dots. Finally, I had found a pen that would not dry out which was very inexpensive to replace. Its amazing just what good advice you can get from the internet. If it wasn’t for a very good artist on the web called Dave Archambault, I would still be struggling with the reservoir nibbed pens now. Many Thanks to Dave.
My pointillism drawings are now completed with Bic biro pen and I’ve never looked back since!
