Project: Nottingham Cycle Super Highway Growth Fund Cycle Ambition (Western Cycle Corridor) Project
Client: Nottingham City Council Transport Strategy Team
Nottingham City Council is investing in and working up plans to improve and expand the City’s cycle facilities, to provide a joined up network of cycle corridors throughout the City. These plans are highlighted within the City’s Cycle Action Plan. The first phase of the project will see the introduction of branded north – south and east – west cross city routes. The planned improvements formed a key element of Nottingham’s Cycle City Ambition bid (a major scheme bid for funding towards cycle infrastructure) which has been approved and allocated £6.1 million of funding. The money will be available for delivery over two years from April 2015. £3 million of this funding has been allocated for 2015/16 and this is a significant scheme within the 2015/16 programme.
Engineers at the sustainable transport organisation Sustrans were asked to look at the route and provide concept designs, working to the latest cycle design standards as outlined in the new Transport for London design guidance. These designs have now been passed to Nottingham City Council to take the detailed design and construction forward in 2015/16.
The objective of the illustration work was to produce an architectural 3D model in SketchUp showing the Sustrans design concepts of the cycle superhighway along Castle Boulevard, Nottingham towards Abbey Bridge. Once the model was complete, other views of the area were then used for public consultation. The benefit with 3D modelling is that the client is in total control over the position of the camera so any view can be exported from the model to any format as shown in the gallery at the foot of the page.

Lumion allows the final model to be presented as high quality visual images, impressive video presentations and live walkthroughs bringing the project to life
Running your own business nowadays in a competitive market is always a challenge. It demands continuously thinking up new ways of convincing potential clients to choose your ideas and designs over those of your competitors.
Many architects have made the jump from 2D drawings to 3D design, either using SketchUp, Revit or another similar 3D CAD package in combination with Lumion. Lumion takes these 3D designs and enables high quality still image renders and animated fly-through's.
Now there's something better than videos pictures. There is an easy, accessible way to let your clients take a look inside your models. By simply sending them a link through email they instantly see your models on phones, tablets and computers.
It works by me first picking several locations in my model in Lumion and uploading the finished model to MyLumion. Am email link to view your model on-line is then sent to your client straight away. He can the preset his projects with ease.
This technology allows for full control in several 360 degree scenes by the client. They can look around at will and get an excellent impression of what the designs are or projects look like with prospective clients and customers.
Even though this is a cycle scheme, this programme can be used for any project.
